World Domination

That's always a good way to kick things off. WORLD DOMINATION! You know what? I am in the best mood of all time. I just go Marieta and I set up for our trip to San Fran next week. We are going on the 4th (So yes I'll miss the national championship game, but who gives.) and returning to L.A. on the 6th. We are staying at this hotel http://www.starwoodhotels.com/sheraton/search/hotel_detail.html?requestedChainCode=SI&requestedAffiliationCode=SI&goToRooms=yes&lengthOfStay=1&numberOfRooms=1&numberOfAdults=1&arrivalDate=2006-01-04&departureDate=2006-01-05&rpoi=&propertyID=315&rcdi=&linkbrand=&fromSearch=22XX&sherlockRatePlanID=&sherlockMiniRate=&sherlockRoomType=&sherlockBedType=&iATANumber=&corporateAccountNumber=&propertyDistance=&propertyDistanceInUnits=&requestType=page&page=&ratePlanName=&roomOccupancyTotal=1 I know that seems like a crazy link but damn it that is a nice freaking h

California Christmas

Well not really. I only got here on the 26th but we held our family Christmas last night in a half filled house. My parents bought a house in Simi Valley California and we moved in beds and dressers yesterday. I'll post some pictures of the monkey once we get the home network up and running. Right now I am at the West Lake Village Library. I am driving Meg to an interview today for some internship. She's a smart one so she'll probably get it. What did I get for Christmas you ask? Well I got: 1) a leather jacket 2) a kick ass sword (from my uncle steve 3) this black on black jogger jacket from santa 3) some clothes 4) some video games 5) a neon sign that says rock and 6) a couple video games. All in all it was a good christmas but I didn't get any toys... : ( Oh well next Christmas. OH YEAH! Marieta bought me Tivo. Now that is pretty cool. She also got me the Victoria Secret cologne "Sexy" It smells gooooood. Marieta comes out here on Friday and we're gonn

It's Official

Marieta is an Registered Dietition, I got the grades, and I shall receive my degree in a couple of short days (maybe a week), and in a week I will be soaking up the rays out in sunny california. It's gonna be a good time. Do you want to see some pictures from my graduation? alright well here there are: http://www.brianboberg.com/pat/2005/graduation.shtml I had no idea that stupid little curl was hanging out during the ceremony and the picture of Marieta and I is not are best. Other than that... nothing. Oh in case you don't know the guy I am sitting next to at the ceremony is Corey. We didn't listen to any of the speceches instead we took a box of basketball cards I snuck in pockets to the ceremony, ranked the players by position and quality and held a draft. We filled a full roster with starting and reserves. It was pretty cool. I think my starting five was: Gilbert Arenas, T Mac, Kevin Garnett, Amare Stoudamire (sp?), and Tim Duncan. I don't remember Corey's b

psp

yep, so i am chillen in a hallway outside the dmacc library typing this entry on my new psp. pretty cool huh? i had no idea these things had wireless capabilities. why i am i @ dmacc? good question. marieta is taking her RD test here. all right i would keep going but typing this all out is a lot of work. later kids

The Last Assignment

I turned in my last college assignment ever about 5 minutes ago. It felt rather odd. Well maybe not the turning in of the assignment but definitely the walk over here to do it. I live on the west side of campus and I had to walk by Helser, Friley, Carver, Curtiss, and finally turn in my assignment in Ross. Kind of funny. Maybe I'm being a little dramatic but Helser is where I lived my freshman year, Friley my sophomore year, Carver I had a billion classes in, and Curtiss is where I had my first college class. Kind of crazy. Four and a half years. What a journey. Three different girlfriends. The beginning, the middle, and the end. Three different bands. A billion guitars, a billion shows, a billion pizzas delivered... It's kind of crazy. I was walking over here and getting a little sentemental (sp? actually i just like putting mental in there). What a wild ride. I overheard a couple people coming out of Curtiss talking about how you don't need a college degree to get a job.

College, the bell tolls for thee

Today was my last day of class as a college student. Can you believe it? It was surreal walking out of my HIstory class this morning and thinking "Damn, I am never gonna take another college course. something like 17 years of schooling and I am done? I remember being in 7th grade and thinking that I would never be done with school. Now I have some papers to turn in for finals, I wear a gown for an hour, and I"m out. That is a steaming pile of bullcrazy. Last night I went out with a lot of the graduating seniors from Com Studies. It was crazy fun, we took a bunch of pictures, and laughed at our college. I am putting the pictures up on Fackbook as we speak so if you want to check it out. Just click on the folder of pictures from our Com Studies senior night. I ate lunch with Corey today. He is never in town this late in the week but considering how this is the last week of class he hung out. It was a good lunch and we talked about life after college. He is moving in with Eleano

A steaming pile of Bull crazy

So it's the week before finals again and I have a ton of papers to write again. A ten pager for my history course, a 2 pager for my senior seminar, a 5 pager for my journalism course, and a rewrite for my screen play (well not a rewrite but more of a touch up job). I am not nervous or anything but I hate having all these things at once. That's for sure. I thought up until last Thursday that the 5 pager was another 10 pager and that is just too many pagers... (pager). Outside of school? Well, I'm glad you asked. Tonight is the first Monday of the month so it is Fajita night at O'Malley's. That should be cool. Jordan and Bethany are coming up from Ankney to join in the fun. Tomorrow there is an Australian wine tasting in Johnston that Bethany, Marieta, and I are checking out (Marieta actually found a couple of wines I liked. I would tell you the name but I forgot em... WAIT! The red wine was from hungry and it's name was "Bull's Blood" she ordered it

This is freaking cool

Okay, to I just figured out that I can add pictures to my blog directly... here's one of me at a waterfall in California. I am not in the mood to give you a full report but I'm back in Ames and everything is fantastic

Holy Bisquick

You know I've never actually had bisquick. My life is so empty... anyways I'm chililin (whoa that was a typo but a cool one so I'm gonna backspace) at LAX. It's like 1130 and I'm waiting for my 1 o'clock flight to Chicago O'hare. I can't wait to get back to Ames to get this college thing over with... I would type more but I am paying 25 cents a minute for this biznitch and I want to check a few other things. There will be pictures, stories, and everything. California rocks and we should all move out here and start a cult... later salty toes.

Slow Down Ghandi you're killin em

So I'm out in California. pretty cool eh? I have got some new clothes, new shoes, and today I'm going to a Clippers game. HEy don't laugh the Clippers are playing pretty well, Sam Cassell is playing like he owns the place and they're playing the Golden State Warriors. It's gonna be a point guard fest. Baron Davis? hells yes. That man is maybe my favorite point guard out there. And of course Jason Richardson that man is a beast. This all works out well because I'm lookin to move to San Fran. Wouldn't that be sweet? I'll give you more details on that at a later date. I saw my parents new house yesterday, they don't move in till Christmas but it looks pretty sweet. The area is really nice, mountains all over, a huge park, bike paths, hiking paths. I am never gonna live there but it will sure be a nice place to visit. I'll put up some pictures at the end of my trip. This whole trip is gonna be action packed, if I'm not doing something I'm p

3 day weekend (sunday entry b)

Man, my weekend was well deserved. All that classwork, while sustaining a social life; am I not awesome? yeah I'm awesome. I hung with Marieta everyday from Wednesday night to Sunday night. Friday night I met her best friend Autumn. Autumn seemed to be pretty cool. SHe's married, to Andy, they have a kid, Nolan, and of course a dog, Moses (too many commas?) We ate dinner with them, watched a movie and played this game Apples to Apples. It was pretty cool even though I totally got my ass kicked. You can't be amazing all the time. Saturday woke up late, got ourselves a couple of pitas and headed over to the tailgate. Bethany was over there with her parents waiting for the Kstate-ISU game. Dude, I have never had a pita before Saturday and man was it delicious. I think it was the hot sauce that really made it for me. Put hot sauce on something and I'll probably eat it. Anyways, we walked around with Bethany and took in the whole scene. Crazy stuff. I love tailgates, always

Thank Gawd that's over (Sunday entry A)

Man last week was a bitch. I had a rough draft of a screen play due (that was 25 pages, which my group decided to type all in one day). God It sucked. Of course I also had a 20 minute presentation to give on Thursday and man that thing sucked. I mean the presentation was pure money; a bunch of laughs, a million questions, what can I say? I own the podium (sp?). But man i sure as hell didn't want to give a 20 minute presentation. Oh yeah before that I had a test on Tuesday. It went over without a hitch. And I ended the week with another paper. Good lord, it was a load of classwork. That may have been the worst week for class work yet (that seeems to be horrible grammar but I'm tired and this is a blog, if you care, you can lick my left nut). But of course there was a bunch of other things going on Monday night football, Tuesday I ate dinner with Marieta, her parents, and extended relatives in Jefferson for her birthday. It was a lot of fun and ended with my surprising run for d

It was a graveyard smash

Hey, my halloween was kicking (and punching). Wanna see some pictures? sure ya do. http://www.geocities.com/ryckblase/halloween.html Yup. Friday night was the pub crawl in Des Moines. Hit up Royal Mile, Hessian house, a few others I don't know the name. It was awesome. So many great costumes out there. I went as Mario and Marieta was gonna go as Princess Toadstool but she couldn't find a dress that worked well enough so she just went as a Hoola girl instead. It was a good time. I will never look at the burger king the same way again. Saturday was cool too. I showed Marieta the old neighborhood and dinner we hit up cheddars. Chicken fingers, Cherry coke, and a cookie monster. A page ripped straight from the P@ history books. We went to a couple haunted houses after that. Met with Chris and Lisa to check out Linns haunted house over by North High School. A lot of crawl around. It was pretty good. I was the guy walking (or crawling) in front of the group. I had to learn not to

A little slow

So I was up pretty late last night and today I am crazilly (that can't be a word) lathargic (sp?). It's all good however. My dress shoes arrived today that I bought on Sunday. They are brown and go with my new suit. So I put it all on to try it out. The suit looks great. God I love this suit and I'm trying to figure out which tie works the best. So... here's a link to check out the suit (and ties) http://www.geocities.com/ryckblase/suitsvote.jpg I realize the numbers look pretty shotty but who cares. I did it in paint... BLAH! What else is going on? OOH! Friday is a halloween pub crawl on Court Ave. It is gonna be awesome. Marieta, Jordan, Bethany, Chris, and Lisa. I had so much fun with all of them last weekend, this weekend is gonna be twice as cool because we'll be dressed up like idiots and rockin around Des Moines. I would tell you what I am gonna be but that would ruin the surprise and pictures I hope to take. I'll tell you what everyone is gonna be. Jord

The weekend? let's talk about it

Friday: Went out with Marieta to the Wild Rose Film Festival in Des MOines. Watched a bunch of short films. God there were some horrible duds. the biggest was this flaming terd made by some valley students. Come on kids, make us alum proud and make some quality films. The feature of the evening was Boone Style, a film about a dysfunctional des moines family's reunion. Really good. I was impressed and inspired. Next year, Stunt Bunny productions will have a film in that festival. You should have seen some of the crap people turned in. After the festival, I held a film festival of my own. Showing Marieta some of our classic gems: Hardcore Scoot, Smashing shit, The Orb, ISUpdate, Cardboard Team. I can't find my Midwest $$. If you have a copy, hook me up. How can I live without my masterpiece. Around 1145 we headed over to central campus to check out the homecoming fireworks. Would you believe that I have never been in Ames for homecoming weekend. We missed the final firework. From

Oh Thursday, how lazy you are

I love thursdays. I have four classes but we never do anything in them on thursday. Discussion in my 930, movie watching at 11, someone gives a presentation at 1240, and at 3 it's note taking. So easy, maybe too easy. My 930 class always gets out early. Without a doubt, I can expect to be out of there within an hour. Today we talked about music videos and the commercialization of music. Basically the old question: Is there any true art? or is it all commercial attempts to get money and fame. It was a good time. I didn't say much, because I used to be a music nazi. I love hearing people say things like "I think Dave Matthews Band is in it for the music." I think he was joking but I don't know. Who am I to knock DMB, I mean they have huge crowds and a couple of their songs are alright... I'm breaking in a new pair of jeans today. It feels pretty good. I don't know why I'm telling you this... maybe it's because I have nothing do for 20 minutes. Ah sc

Before I hit the sheets

Man, long long day. Up at 8, class, a TON of golf with Jordan, and than an evening with Bethany, JOrdan, and Marieta. Ladies and Gents, today was a classic. Sometimes you go to bed and you just think "yeah, that went pretty well." You know, I was tired 20 minutes ago but something has woken me up... Thanks.

Good News and Bad News

Well the bad news is my favorite pair of shorts no longer fits. I mean I can use a belt to make it fit but if I just put it on they fall right off. Don't laugh people, this is a big deal. I have worn these shorts since junior year of high school. I am not giving up these shorts. I mean it's missing buttons, a couple of the zippers for the cargo pockets are broken, and there are several holes in them, but I am nothing if not loyal. Even to my clothes. Speaking of which; the good news! My Rx Bandits shirt, I that bought at their show two summers ago, fits again. Not only does it fit but there is actually a bunch of loose space. Could it be I have lost this much weight? I have this side by side photo of me topless from two years ago and a picture of me topless from 2 weeks ago. There is a huge difference. It's almost ridiculous. From 235 to 192. That's a lot of weight in two years. Pretty crazy. Soon my goal of being able to rock out on guitar with my shirt off will be com

Pieces of April

So, I'm not a kate holmes fan. It's probably the fact she was on Dawson's Creek and is involved with Tom Cruise (nothing against Tom, but this relationship seems a little ridiculous). However, Pieces of April is a great movie. Let me bring you up speed; April (Kate Holmes) lives in New York City and invites her family up to visit her for Thanksgiving. She is kind of the black sheep of a disfunctional family and as the story is revealed you get the feeling that Dinner is going to be a disaster. I highly reccommend this movie. It's crazy, got some good characters and it's independent. I just found out there is an independent film festival in Des Moinse next weekend. It's called the Wild Rose Film Fest. I really really want to check it out. I have never been to a film festival, I mean it's in des moines so no great expectations or anythign but I'm hopeful it's cool. I dont ahve any particulars on it but damn it I want to go. I'm gonna find out about

Let me whip this out

Okay so yesterday I picked up a couple of preseason season magazines on NCAA basketball. I can't wait, it's by far my favorite sports league around; however, these magazines have no idea whats up. I mean they have plenty of info on the teams that always kill like Duke, Arizona, Kentucky and the like but Smith & Street picked ISU to be preseason ranked 12 (which is way too optimistic) and AThlon picked us as a one & done NCAA tourney team (which I hope isn't the case). Athlon picked UNI to be a sweet 16 team. What kind of horse shit is that? I mean we may have no veteran front court but give us a little more respect than UNI. Just sick man, sick. Thank god the Yankees are out of the playoff picture. 6 months of the year all we hear from ESPN is Yankees this, Yankees that... BOOOO!!!!! I hate the Yankees. I think MLB has a lot of crap to work out. Until they get a hard salary cap established, like the NBA, Baseball will always be frought with teams no one cares about

If it's cause my age than you're a coward

Good lord, who do I have to screw to get my voice back. My voice is still low and grumblely from this weekend. Good lord. I don't have anythign to talk about besides the fact I slept for like 10 hours last night (I slept for 12 hours thursday, friday, and saturday nights combined.) That felt damn good. Something I did want to mention is another crazy coincidence. So last week I had to do this presentation with Corey, Adam, and Kyle. I decided we needed to do some videotaping of candid camera shit around campus, it was hilarious. But I want to get at are these little intros we filmed. I dressed up like this famous prof E.T. Hall and acted like a complete fool. It was a huge hit. I got a few remarks from people who said "why aren't you a theatre major" and "you should go into acting." I thought alright, thanks for the nice comments. Well than this weekend rolls around, It was fun as hell, and a few of the older peoples around said I should go into acting o

Wedding Pictures

Oh hell yes, Here are the pictures: Okay so I didn't take any pictures till the day of the wedding. There were cameras flying everywhere and I will probably get copies of those pictures but here are the few I took. First there are some pictures from the chapel. NO pictures of the service of course because I was on stage doing my duties as best man. http://www.geocities.com/ryckblase/jordanbethanygarden.jpg http://www.geocities.com/ryckblase/jordanmomleigh.jpg http://www.geocities.com/ryckblase/parkboys.jpg So we took a bunch of professional pictures, inside/outside, blah, bleh. After the pictures us boys went to the park and chilled out. I swung on the swings and tire swing by the tire swing just about made me puke. http://www.geocities.com/ryckblase/jordanbethanyreception.jpg http://www.geocities.com/ryckblase/jorbethdance1.jpg http://www.geocities.com/ryckblase/jorbethdance2.jpg Here are some cute pictures of Jordan and Bethany. I think these are the only serious

Seriously, the greatest weekend of my college life.

Okay so the weekend started on Thursday but damn it man, I HAD FUN!!!! Holy crap, in case you don't know Jordan and Bethany (two of my best friends in the whole world) got married this yesterday and starting on Thursday night we all hung out and rocked the Des Moines area like nobodies business. Thursday was the rehearsal dinner and what not. A little stilted. People were just getting to know/meet each other. I had met some of the brides maids before but only friends with one. I was joking like nobodies business from the word go on Thursday. Keith, Scottie, Jordan, Jeremy, and Matt... what a combo. The rehearsal dinner was fun, great food and what not. Afterwords we went to a bar in Ankeny and took it over in our suits and ties. Great time. I stayed in Ames on Thursday. Friday was another party with family and friends. The day started with another golf outing. I didn't shoot horribly, 57 on the front nine on a tough course I had never played before. I wanted to play the back n

Jimmy V Classic

Hells yeah. This year the classic features Michigan State vs. Boston College and Kansas vs. St. Joes. Hell yeah. Last year it featured Syracuse vs. Oklahoma State and someone else I don't remember. That was a good game last year. Tense the whole way. No big break aways or comebacks. I hope That MSU game is good. I am hoping MSU and Illinois fight it out for the big ten. I am not sure Illinois has the players to do it but Brown is still the man so we'll see. Today is gonnna be a beast. I have this debate in the morning (natural theology vs. quantum physics, not as bad as it sounds), a 5 pager to write for tomorrow, and after that Corey, Kyle, Bosman, and I are spending the whole day filming candid camera shit all around campus. It's gonna be pretty sweeet. I plan to dress up like Harold Ramis from GhostBusters and narrate the will shindig. I really have nothing to say but when i saw that Jimmy V Classic. I just had to say something. MSU is a cool school. All around too, not

Oh God of Progress

Have you degraded or fotgot us? Oh yes, Sufjan Stevens has my heart. eh... wait... PICTURES! Yes that's right, I promised pictures. I don't know if this monkey allows HTML but we're about to find out. Heres a picture of my God-son and I from this past weekend. http://www.geocities.com/ryckblase/willandpat.jpg Heres a picture of me and this sweet suit I picked up this weekend http://www.geocities.com/ryckblase/suit.jpg Heres a picture of the sport coat I picked up with the suit http://www.geocities.com/ryckblase/sportcoart.jpg Pictures are fun. Alright, I really don't have anything new to say besides the fact, my computer appears to be running nice.

at the subatomic level

Alright, nobody go crazy but I'm pretty sure my computer is gonna be alright. I took it into Durham to see if they could help me and of course they gave me an idea but they gave it to me in the normal tech loser fashion. Basically they made me feel like a gorilla who doesn't understand what a computer is. Damn you punks, just help me out. Anyways, it's looking pretty good. Cross your fingers. Ah the weekend. Went by pretty quick and was pretty cool. I hung with my fam in chi-land. Saw my god-son and went to my cousins volleyball game. She is pretty good. I love volleyball so it was cool. Well I am at the library and meeting with my group in one minute so I gotta say later. HOWEVER! As I say farewell let me just say Sufjan Stevens "Come and Feel the Illinoise" is my album of the year thus far. I got it a bit ago but now I can't stop spinning it. I promise if you pick it up you will not be disappointed. Alright minions, next time we talk, or you read, it will b

Hot feet

As of yesterday I can average 6.58 minute miles. I am still running my 5ks and yesterday I broke the 7 minute average mark for the first time since I started this whole craziness. My best mile time ever is 6.46. I feel like I should just sprint out a mile to see if I can get like a 6 minute mile. That would be amazing. Every kid out there has that dream of being the fastest man on the planet. It must have something to do with the olympics. Maybe Michael Johnson. That guy was kind of speedy. Well time to go talk about stereotyping and hegemony. Get down while the getting is cheap. Later kids.

Putting some spice in the soup

So last night Elliot, Wags, Porter, and I got together to play a little poker. 5 card draw, texas, omaha, and Chicago Hi/lo. Good times. Everyone except Ben had the chip lead at one point and it went late. we started at like 9 and the last two men standing were Wagner and I at 1215. I should have and could have won it all but I was getting tired and played with my balls to the wall just to see if I could find a means to end the game. Best 5 bucks I ever lost in a poker game. I really felt like I made some solid moves. I'm looking forward to playing again but this time, winning it all. In other news this weekend I am going to Chicago to spend the weekend with my displaced mother. She's out in Cali, might get a job offer out there, and if she gets the job she wont be free to swing through the midwest at the drop of a hat. So, I'm going to visit her and my relatives to celebrate my graduation and all the what not. Oh, did I mention I got the info in the mail, ISU says I'm

Seriously, I'm bored

Could life be anymore boring right now? Bah. I'm really tired of class and this whole routine. Something exciting better happen soon.

Good Lord I have been lazy

So my computer has been turned off since Saturday (I'm in a computer lab before class) when I reformatted it and I still have yet to take it in to get it cleaned up. I have no idea whats wrong with it. Maybe I reformatted it wrong? I have done it several times in the past. What could I be doing wrong now... hmm... I am pretty much swamped in assignments right now. Adapting a short story into a screenplay, Recording 5 episodes of a news show and writing a 5 page review of its approach and content, meeting with a conversation partner of a different culture, a debate over Materialism versus religion, and of course next week there is a test in one of my classes. Can I just say balls? Balls, balls, balls. With all this homework where is there any time left over for the xbox? Man, even though I am busy, I am just flat out bored lately. Bored to the core. I need to take up underwater cave diving or something. Maybe get a job, but that just seems like it would add more boredom and demands

Wishful thinker with the worst intentions

So last night I saw Jimmy Eat World and Green Day in Des Moines. It was a great show. Not the greatest show ever but damn they rocked. Surprisingly they didn't play many songs... Whatever it was rockin. Quick little update here. My computer is on life support right now I don't know whats up with it. So I am using Friley's computer lab to check my mail and right this thing. Alright I'll leave with my favorite Green Day song (which they didn't play, but I didn't expect them to). Green Day's "F.O.D." Something's on my mind It's been for quite some time This time I'm on to you So where's the other face? The face I heard before Your head trip's boring me Let's nuke the bridge we torched2,000 times before This time we'll blast it all to hell I've had this burning in my guts nowfor so long My belly's aching now to say Stuck down in a rut of dislogic and smut A side of you well hid When it's all said and done it'

Woke up today and started a fire

Rescue Me was intense tonight. Top to bottom. That is my favorite show currently. Wouldn't miss it for an orgy featuring every fantasy girl I've ever harbored...well maybe that. But let's just say you're missing out if you aren't watching that show. Took a shower and started watching some high fidelity and man that movie rocks. I might have a slight man crush on John Cusack, but only cause he is freaking cool. He hasn't done any good movies since High Fidelity but he's cool as hell. Anyways that movie is all about break ups and Cusack dealing with his break up demons. It got me thinking. Maybe the worst part about having a long relationship break up is the fact you come out of it with pretty much nothing to show for it. I mean people know it happened but I mean you put in three years of work, thousands of dollars, faithful committment (if you're not an asshole), and thousands of man hours and pretty much the only thing you get it is like a month or two o

I hurt

Yesterday I played an hour of football on the turf at the rec and today I played an hour and a half of basketball. I haven't played football in FOREVER. My muscles were not ready for that, let me tell you. All that lateral movement. I think linebackers are cool and all but I am definitely not one. I mean I work out 4 or 5 times a week but these muscles are tight as hell and they burn. Just when you think you are working all the muscles in your body you find a new set to hurt. Right where my legs meet my hips I am so tight its crazy. P.S. Rescue Me is a kickass show. Firefighters rock. P.S.S. Go State, Screw the Hawks, Packers, and Vikings.

Strange Encounters

Do you remember the first time you met some of your goodfriends? I mean you just see them and think "we're gonna be good friends." I can run down the list and tell when I met pretty much all of my goodfriends. Dan Givens I met in first grade but we didn't become good friends until 4th grade. I knew in 4th grade we'd be best friends. I remember meeting Elliot in 3rd grade and him doing the thing where you get a week to be the special kid in class and telling us about his brother and he had this handheld mic w/speaker built in. I thought he was cool as shit and sure enough in 5th grade we became good friends. I remember being introduced to Chris in 5th grade, he was new at westridge wearing overall alls with one of the straps undone (stylin it). Ben I met in 3rd grade, Mrs. Woodward's class, Wags I met in 4th grade and our first interaction was swinging on the swingset at recess talking about NFL teams with hot cheerleaders (4th grade...so cool). I remember meet

Ladder 49

Dude, I love firefighter movies, shows, stories, whatever. I just watched Ladder 49 and dude that movie just kicked some ass. I've mentioned before my man crush on firefighters and how I kind of want to be one. After watching that movie I am all about it. AH! I don't really have much to talk about... Fast paced weekend. Went out with the guys on friday, tailgating yesterday (not too long but it was hot), Met some peoples in town last night, and today I worked out and watched ladder 49. SO MUCH FOOTBALL. I mean it's not a bad thing but I am looking forward to some good football games not 60 point blow outs. What games were cool? Illinois vs. Rutgers and Louisville vs. Kentucky. I didn't get to see the ISU game because for some reason it wasn't on TV. (BULLSHIT) This Virginia Tech/NC state game is pretty sweet. I dig Virginia Tech. I'd call em my dark horse for the rose bowl. I love listening to these commentators "Look at Marcus scramble! NOW LOOK AT MICHEAL

Always Something

What is going on? This year I hear atleast two people a day walking around singing along to their Ipods. I hate ipods, for several reasons. I used to walk to class everyday with a cd player because I thought listening to music was cool but now I never do. People used to say "I saw you walking to class but didn't come up to you because you were listening to music." So yeah, that kind of sucks. Like take today for instance. If I had been listening to music on my way to class I wouldn't have heard this cute chick who needed help with some journalism thing she was doing. I mean I didn't hit on her or anything but there was the interaction. I just had another tragic NCAA episode. I'll spare you the details. But today has been three things: Class, NCAA, and working out. As soon as Elliot wiggles on down here we're gonna hit up FAC. Rock on comrades. Daddy loves ya.

Yeah, I'll brag about videogames

Hey I'm single, currently not chasing any laides, and I won a tense game of NCAA Football tonight. I was Auburn, Corey was Ohio State. I went up 14, he put up 21 uncontested, than we went 7 for 7 till the fourth quarter. Tied at 28. I put up 7 with 3 left, he puts up 7 with 1 left. Tied at 35. I do nothing with my possession, Corey has it and can win. What does he do? Throw a pick on the first play. I run it back. 42 to 35. He has 33 seconds. The bitch takes us to overtime with two ridiculously stupid bombs. Tense overtime. Two possessions each and what happens he decides to go for two to end the game. No way bitch. His quarterback tosses it the wrong man and I win. If you have ever played videogames with me or watched you know I yell, scream, and run around the house like a fucking idiot. I was all over the place. Great times. Oh yeah and we watched Old School. Good times, good day. In the words of The Presidents of the United States of America: I got a nickel in my pocket, I got

Good Luck exploring the infinite abyss

AH! I just watched Garden State for the first time in like 2 or 3 months. God I love that movie. Every time I watch it I have the same reaction I had the first time I saw it. I'm 23 years old and I can connect with the whole fish swimming through the ocean with his eyes closed thing. Great flick. So the first week of my last semester at ISU was a success. All my classes are pretty cool and none of my professors are complete tools so I'm diggin it. What am I taking you ask? Five courses: The History of Science and Religion (pretty cool), Gender, Race, and Ethnicity in the Media (another topic that tickles my cerebrum), Intercultural Nonverbal Communication (a class full of friends inside my major), Intercultural communication (same deal as the last class), and Screenplay Writing (totally sweet). I'm digging all my classes. Maybe I can pull another 4.0 semester. That would be pretty cool. Prior to the start of the semester I was all worried about the screenplay writing cou

But they wont bleed me

Man, you have got to see BAADASSSSS! I just watched it On Demand and that movie is hot. Friday was my birthday, I am now 23 years old. Crazy. Oh and see the 40 year old virgin. That movie made me laugh till I cried. Don't ask me if it's better than wedding crashers. They dont compare. Both are hilarious but for different reasons. Now go see BAADASSSSS! and The 40 Year Old Virgin.

I hear a radio in the distance

Tomorrow I leave for Iowa. California is beautiful. The weather is perfect everyday, people are nice, there are mountains to climb. I love it. I have been talking shit about L.A. but the area around it, awesome. I love it. I didn't get to surf but I did climb a mountain. I didn't bungee jump but I did see wild dolphins swimming and jumping out of the ocean right off the coast of malibu. Seriously, a fun time and I can't wait to visit again. Hopefully I'll get up to San Francisco next time. Now that is an awesome city. You know when you want to leave musical lyrics as away messages? Well I have deicided that Third Eye Blind is the absolute best band for it. Maybe not for you but for me. I listened to all their albums today while driving around the L.A. area and dude Stephan Jenkins knows how to write lyrics. Blunt but poetic. I dig it. I tried to keep up with my work outs while visiting LA LA land. It worked out for the most part. I learned that a stair master can ki

California

I have finally made it to my dad's place in Thousand Oaks, CA. It is just north of Malibu and like 20 minutes out of L.A. I thought it was called Thousand Oaks just to sound nice but there are a bunch of oaks. It's kind of cool. There are mountains all over the place, everyone drives a nice car (except my dad with his prism, hahahaha). It should be an alright time as long as I stay occupied. The drive was long, but alright. Utah is super boring, Colorado is cool, I don't remember Nebraska because I was into my audio book, and Nevada was quick and painless. I stopped in Denver on Monday night and hung out with Scott. We walked around Denver and saw Bill Murray's new flick Broken Flowers . It was pretty cool. Tuesday night I stayed in Northern Las Vegas. I didn't gamble because I was tired and it just didn't suit me. I had a good time with the drive but I also look forward to never doing it again. I hope you're having a great life wherever you are. I'm g

This is the worst day of my life

Okay I had a huge ugly post here. That's not me, I rushed into it. Just know I am not having a good day. If you want to know more, ask.

Moving out

Alright so tomorrow is the great move out. Everyone hates packing shit up, moving out, moving in, heavy lifting, sweating, etc. But you know what? I don't care at all. The only thing I don't like is the fact that I don't have a place to store my junk for like two nights while I am homeless. Well I am only homeless for one night but I need to store my stuff a couple days in advance so I can get to the cleaning and all that fun. I am only praying for this to go smooth. I am once again moving out all by myself (which I don't care about) but it means if something goes wrong in the process than there is just me to deal with it. Wish me luck

You know what

I'm watching the show Rescue Me, it's that new firefighter show on FX and it's awesome. You know a couple years ago I got on this week kick where I wanted to be a firefighter... I'm starting to think I want to be a firefighter again. I used to be a pyro when I was in boy scouts. Not like lighting everything on fire or anything but I just find it fascinating and I think it's something I could be passionate about it. I looked it up online. They don't make much money and work odd hours but man... it just sounds like something I could do and would love. I mean maybe it's something I forget about and it will come up in a few more years but P@ the firefighter... that could totally happen.

My Lifestyle determines my Deathstyle

So today went like this: woke up, watched tour de france, finished my last summer course, worked out, finished the batman begins videogame, watched Some Kind Of Monster (the Metallica documentary), watched Monk , and than The Jacket. I know it sounds like a lot of sitting on my ass but guess what, it was cool with me. Dude, that Some Kind Of Monster was totally worth it. I am not a Metallica fan by any definition of the word, but that was a great documentary. You take a look at Metallica and you think there is a band that cuts through the bullshit and just talks straight to everyone and one-another. Dude, they were screwed (maybe still are) but watching that movie you connect with them on a human level. I mean Lars is still an ass but you understand why. Man that was a cool film. They just recorded their lives from January 2001 (when Jason Newsted quit the band) to the kick off of their St. Anger tour. If there ever was reality television, this is it. They had a therapist, they yell

So this may be the best idea of the summer thus far

Bethany was giving me a ride back to my place today and we came up with a great idea. Worlds of Fun. We were talking about how much we love good theme parks and we figured a day trip during the week some time after july 4th is a great idea. She is going to Adventureland today and Adventureland isn't a park you can spend the whole day but Worlds of Fun or Great America, in Chicago, those are places you can waste a day or two. OH! I want to go so bad. Jordan and I played a round of 9 today. I shot a 53. I need to take a lesson or something. I'm getting tired of these high 40, low 50 games. I had some great hits and a few finesse puts but nothing to shake a stick at. God it was hot out. Supposedly it's 89 degrees out but with the humidity and close to no breeze it's like 100 out. I was sweeting like a drunk monkey. I love golf. Great way to get in a walk, bs with your buddy, and just wack the hell out of a ball. Ah, maybe I'll go work out this afternoon. Later kids.

You do not want to be in a room with me right now

Every part of my body smells like some toxic. I am stinky bitch right now. I was up late last night so I went to work out this afternoon. OH MAN! It is 90 degrees outside and inside the wreck it must have been at least 80. I was sweating like nobodies business. I stink so so so bad. Quickest few miles of my life. There is a boys basketball camp going on at the wreck all week and everytime I was at the east end of the gym I had my eyes glued on it. I wish I had done basketball camps as a kid. I love Basketball. 2 down, 1 to go. I took an exam for my film class today, and boy was it easy. I cut that sucker up like it was a well cooked ham. Toss another A on the pile because that was ridiculous. Alright, I work tonight and than I am done with Phut for the week. I better be golfing this time tomorrow, I haven't golfed since Sunday and I'm feeling the itch. Later punks. P.S. I know it's the "rec" not the "wreck," let me have my fun. P.S.S. I realize that golf

Kinda sucks

You know the worst thing about when your girlfriend goes on long trips is that you sleep so bad when their gone. You spend the whole day thinking about them and you figure by 1030 you're probably gonna be tired and just knock right out. Well, you're wrong. You lay in bed for 40 minutes thinking about what they've been up to, how they are, if they've been taking a lot of pictures, if you're doing the same thing. Ya know the type of crap that none of your guy buddies really wanna hear about (or read about in their buddies blog for that matter) but it's the truth. I tried the glaunt let. Reading, watching a little tube, attempting to think about nothing, all that nonsense. Blah. It just sucks. You never realize how you get so used to talking to somebody before you fall asleep and rambling to them about your day, them reciprocating, that when you can't do that, you can't get to sleep. I guess it just makes you realize what is important to you huh? I hope you

Don't mean to freak anyone out but...

Dudes, isn't it wierd how all the major sports "flagship" teams are down recently. The Lakers didn't make the playoffs, the Cowboys, Packers, and 49ers were shitty this year, and if you turn on ESPN recently you are more than likely to know that The New York Spankees are down and practically out. Kind of odd, n'est pas? I am chilling out. I have worked everyday since Saturday. I am on a mission. I realized if I can turn my academic ass around and get close to all As I might as well turn my Physical ass around as well. I am sitting at 218 and I wont stop until I am at 190. I have been there before and lived there. It's the mission. I can and will do it. I saw Batman Begins last night. It was pretty sexy; however it had it's occasional moments of ridiculous. I mean Batman jumps out of a 5th story window and nails the side of his ribs on a railing. Hello? broken ribs? punctured lungs? yeah I thought so. Besides that the main bad guy is Ra's Al Ghoul. Perf

Athletic Day

Dude, days like today are just fun. I road my bike to and from class(10 miles), ran a 5k, lifted for an hour, and tonight I played 3 half court games of basketball with Corey and his buddy Mike (who was pretty cool). We didn't play anybody special. Just some high school kids on a small court by Corey's new place. We were talking smack with these kids. it was a lot of fun. We walked over and I said "are we playing and 1 or for real." Those kids blew up talking about how they were gonna school us and 1 style. We schooled the shit out of em. Corey was hitting his shots, jukin like crazy. Corey can play. Mike, who said he hasn't shot hoops in a couple years, played like crazy. He is an inch taller than me and skinny as a rail but damn we were crazy. He was hitting long three shots (all buckets worth a pt). I got almost every single rebound. Man, let me tell you. I blocked the shit out of this kid who thought he was Allen Iverson. Ah, ever since I got that book about B

It just doesn't matter

Dude, Shaq is the coolest cat to ever play the game of basketball. I just watched "Shaquille" his reality show on ESPN sponsored by Verizon and damn man, he is so cool. I hated the Lakers, I didn't care about the Magic, and the Heat are pretty cool, thanks to Dwayne Wade, Zo, D. Jones. Seriously, how can you not like Shaq? He can play, he is funny as shit, and he just seems like a good person. Alright I gotta do it. Time to make a couple lists off the top of my skull. Top Five Coolest Players of All Time: 1) Shaquille O'Neal 2) Wilt Chamberlain 3) Charles Barkley 4) Magic Johnson 5) I don't know... probably Michael Jordan See these guys are all fun, kick ass all stars, but still just lovin life. I mean those top four are easy to fill but five is hard. I can't think of another guy who can just play the game and live life like it wasn't the biggest deal in the world. I mean yeah Shaq demanded to be traded, Wilt had the loser complex, Charles was kind of a bi

Call me Crazy

Okay so I ran 4 miles today (6.7 km). and as I walked into the rec I noticed the sign ups for intramurals, and... I want to do the ISU Triathlon. Yeah, I know, I know. That's crazy. I am in no shape to do a .9 mile swim, 24.8 mile bike ride, followed by a 6.2 mile run (if the school follows the olympic format of triathlons) but damn it! I ran 4 miles today, lifted and did a shit ton of sit ups. The sign ups for the Triathlon start like August 15th and the actual triathlon doesn't go down untilthe end of the month. Damn it, I am gonna do it. I haven't been in any sort of organized athletics since intramurals my freshman year and I miss it. I never did track, I didn't do any varsity sports all of high school but I can do it. It felt good running four miles. I only gave up because my groin muscles started to ache. Damn it, I can do it. I am 220 lbs today and I can lose 20 lbs in two months and if I am lucky I can get down to 190 by the start of school. HELL! If I keep the

And they're on the move

Okay folks here it is. My parents are moving once again. Last summer I was visiting my parents for my birthday and I cracked a joke that my parents should move to California because they have lived in Chicago and New York, so hey! Why don't they move to the other coast and say they have been in all the tent pole cities of America. Crazy huh? Well they are moving in July or August. And it's looking like my cross country voyage with my animals is gonna go down. Crazy. I say crazy a lot. Well it is. My parents have let their respective bosses know and they are out of that crazy island they call long. Okay, I got out of work for tonight so it looks like I am gonna hit up the wreck center and than chill all night. Cross your fingers that Corey get's out of his group meeting early so I can go to the batting cages. Later on Day 1

Dude, I don't even know

This summer is a hard one man. I just ate dinner with my friend Chris. I want to call him my best friend but we haven't hung out all in the last year. We have been in a band together for 6 years and we were living together for two years. I ate dinner with him tonight and we talked and I was loving hearing about him and what's going on but as soon as I left I realized that this summer sucks. People are graduating and going to places. I should not have been this lazy in College. I should be doing the same, getting excited about my future life and shit... now I'm just sitting here depressed because my best friend is going to either A) mini apple B) Vermont or C) Italy. Who knows when I'll see him again. HE MIGHT BE MOVING THIS WEEKEND! It's depressing. If it wasn't for Corey calling me immediately as I got in my car I would probably be crying like a little girl. Maybe I'm taking this all the wrong way. I should be greatful I have the time I have left to charish

Chillin in Chicagoland

I am staying the night at my aunt's place tonight. Tomorrow is my cousin Will's baptism and I am is his godfather. I think that's really cool and I feel honored to be it. If he is anything like his older brother Scotty or his dad Steve he is destined to be a cool kid. I love being in Chicagoland. You know how you can go places by yourself and feel alone and almost kind of worthless almost? Well Chicagoland is the complete opposite for me, I could chillin in Chicagoland all by myself and feel great. This is where I hope to end up at some point. The Bulls, Cubs, Bears, the city, my family, what else is there? It's pretty sweet. It's funny you know because a few years ago I would have fought to get back to Des Moines, mainly because all my friends were there. I can see why Des Moines is a great place to raise your kids but I am ready to split. I don't want to raise my kids where most of my history is. I'm a pretty excited guy at this point of my life. Little

Dude, this weather is freaking depressing

It is 37 degrees out, raining, and overcast like nobodies business. On top of that I slept like fish out of water last night, I have a head cold, and I have done nothing today but drive to West Des Moines and back. I just wanna meeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh.... Thank god there is basketball tonight. I am going to play ball and watch it. Yeah so I havent done this thing in a long time. I guess I have gotten bogged down with school work, hanging with Chels (which isn't really work but it takes time away from BSing on the internet), and when I have time to do this I am either working out or chilling out. So whats up? Um I spent springbreak in Chicago. It was pretty sweet. I actually put the pictures on the net. I got this account thing at Club Photo here's the link http://members7.clubphoto.com/patrick972501/guest-1.phtml If you check it out you will notice that I also signed up for a new apartment. I am living alone next fall. It's my last semester here so I figure I

It's late, so let's ramble

Man I didn't have class today. It was pretty sweet but now that it's almost one and I have class at eight am... I really wish I hadn't slept in till 11. It could be worse, I figure if I hadn't gone and worked out for an hour today I probably would be up till about 2 or 3 tonight sleepless. Oh well. I started playing ESPN NBA 2K5. I got it for christmas but had yet to play it until today. I was a little hesitant because I heard a shit load of bad reviews for it but man, it is way better than that NCAA 2005 game. It's fun to play, the reaction is realistic. Momentum and shit. Oh yes, it's nice. Of course, my team is the Bulls and we be throwing down. We've only lost four games. Let's see I think they were Suns, Kings, and... can't remember the other, oh well. I can't wait to go see the Bulls play the Wolves on the 13th. Chels and I are gonna go. It is gonna be sa-weet. Hell yes. i was looking at how much replica Bulls' jerseys cost. They are ex

Damn you 8 o'clock.

I was so close, SO CLOSE! I figured I would never have another 8 o'clock again. I havent had one since my freshman year. But alas, it wasn't meant to be. My Tuesday/Thursday schedule is 8, 9.30, 11. Isn't that just as fun as a llama's sweaty sack. Whatever I'll muscle through it. So after the whole holiday fun I am back at school. I survived all the presents, flying, and football. By the way, Iowa State and Iowa both won their bowls. Sadly Michigan lost. Actually, I dont feel down about the Michigan loss because they were playing a big 12 team and in the bowls I want my conference to win. I likes ya Michigan but I had to throw down with the longhorns this time. Maybe next year you'll be playing somebody like Auburn in a bowl, then I will cheer for ya. So recently I have been wrestling with the idea of becoming a college professor. College is so much fun, I like talking with my professors, and I'm starting to think I could possibly be the single best co
