Top 10 Things of 2019

Image
Like everyone I love lists; however it feels like I no longer have the time to sit down and give every sub-genre of life and culture it's due. So here are the top 10 things I experienced this year. 10. Disneyland with Emmalyn As it turns out, I have been to Disneyland once a decade since my visit in 1993 (and for some reason always within a few days off Christmas.) This decade's visit came this year with my family, Marieta, and Emmalyn along for the ride. It was really fun, especially riding the Dumbo ride, Emmalyn's first rollercoaster, watching the parade with Emmalyn on my shoulders, and the end of night fireworks. 9. Seeing "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" at Story City Theater Quentin Tarantino's ninth film "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" is easily the most rewatchable film of the year, a cinematic feast for the eyes, ears, and mind, and each viewing offers something new. My favorite part about seeing it was my second screening occ...

It's Never Too Late To Love

And by love I mean post pictures of something that happened a couple weeks ago. These be the best pics . If you want to see them individually click on the slideshow. There will be a nice long video to check out but it wont be posted till probably the end of the week. Time to go, David Duchovny is on Conan. Oh and incase you never saw it. Here's what went down in Sparks, NV.

In The Words of Dicky Barrett...

"Where did ya go?" Oh Me, that's right, Iowa. I forgot to let you in on the whole update from the road and whatnot. There are plenty of pictures and I took quite a bit of video. I will post all that goodness but for now... it's sleepy time. Nighty night.

Wedding Dress by the Beach

Image
Since the day we got married Marieta has been itching to take pictures in her dress on the California Beach. Well eight months later she got her wish. We drove up and around the Marin Headlands taking pictures and video. It was pretty cool time. We didn't take a thousand pictures but I think we took some good ones. It also helps that while I was running back and forth between being in the frame and the tripod a nice couple with a really nice XLR camera asked if he could help. His pics look great. Its funny how you never notice what you're missing in resolution quality until you have two samples of pics sitting side by side. The dude said he had never taken any wedding pics before but was pretty big into photography. I am so thankful he helped us out. He gave me his card and incase you're looking to redesign your kitchen clicky here . Maybe Mr. Bhargava can help you out. I'm having a good time messing with photoshop. These pics are pretty prime for messing around. I ca...

Little Peeps in Petaluma

This weekend we almost overdosed on cuteness. Our adventure this Saturday was up to Petaluma to check out their yearly Butter & Eggs Day. It was really fun. We got up there just in time to see the "Cutest Little Chick in Town" contest. Cute is the appropriate word. Parents are given the opportunity to dress their 0-4 year old as a baby chick. Besides getting the opportunity to check out Petaluma, that contest was Marieta's only reason for seeing the festival.  I had to work at 5am Saturday morning so after standing under the hot sunday for a couple hours we split town after the parade. I was starting to fade, hard. We took a trip down the road to check out a cheese company, drove up to Santa Rosa to hit up a couple of wineries that Marieta liked, and then on the way home we stopped back in Petaluma to get a bite to eat. It was a pretty awesome day. Enjoy the video.

The Boberg's And The Recession

Image
Incase you missed it on Facebook: Yes that is pretty funny but in reality the Boberg's could be real victims of the recession. California has the horrible privilege of being one of the few states where the state legislature needs 2/3s approval for a state budget to pass. In the past the state has gone months past the deadline for a finalized budget and lived to tell the tale. This year is not one of those times. California is officially out of cash and floating bills with "IOU's." Instead of having any legislation to put real pressure (say no pay till budget issues are resolved or fines of each days pay budget issues are resolved) on our state senators California pushes its problems to the people on the frontlines. Governor Schwarzenegger is mandating that state employees take two days off a month without pay to help make ends meet. Now if Marieta worked for a hospital this wouldn't be a big deal, but that's not the case, and since she is the main bre...

What Once Was And Could Be

Image
It makes me sad to say I will be one of those guys who can only tell his kids that he used to rock and they wont (most likely that is) experience it first hand. The picture above was taken in Burt, Iowa back in 2003. The "Hey Day" of Eight Miles Out. This past week has kind of been a rock n roll renaissance; dug out those lost to the winds 8MO demos, mixed down the last recordings I ever did for another group (if you care to listen check this out ), and started work on a collective DVD of pieces from every show we got on tape. That DVD is gonna take a lot of work and will probably only be appreciated by three people and eventually their descendents but... who cares. When you want to relive your rock filled days it's easier to do if it is all wrapped up in one neat little package. Will I ever get my stage legs back? Good question. If I do I doubt it will be for anything more than fun and a few good laughs. In the mean time my musical goal are to set up all my gear (Guitars...

What Next?

Image
Marieta and I are now the proud owners of 6' 4" X 6' 8" of soft real estate. That's right, we own a new bed and it is awesome. After our little purchase Marieta and I sat down over dinner and mapped out our spending plan. Yep, that's right, I am treading in new waters... responsibility... For the first time in a year we don't have an evening dominated by thoughts or actions pertaining to planning a wedding. It feels really nice. Almost alien. The majority of our first year in California was controlled by wedding issues, planning, and to-do lists. Now we have all these new plans. It's fun. This Saturday we are riding the Napa Wine Train (cashing in a gift from a year ago), stopping into a couple banks to set up joint checking and savings, Sunday morning we're going to see a flick called Two Angry Moms , a story about a couple of mothers upset over the nuritional content of their kids school lunches, and who knows, maybe we'll get over to the cit...

How Hot is It?

Image
Damn hot. Seriously, why global warming have to ruin everything. First the polar deaths, than the crop yields go down, and now I am sticky and sweaty all day? Come on people, pick a side! I remember people saying when we moved out here that practically no buildings come with A.C. because you don't need it... well I don't want to get ahead of myself too much, but WRONG! Check it out, that's me on the bus heading home from work. If haven't guessed it by now I have nothing to talk about. Okay, well off to my 85 degree apartment to watch The Office and Earl Finales. I hope all is well wherever you people live. (by the looks of it that would be California, Iowa, New York, and Washington for the most part) Peace

California is Awesome

Image
I wont lie to you. California does not disappoint. Unless your dream is to move out to Los Angeles and be a movie star, California will not disappoint you. How can I be so sure? There are just too many adventures, too many beautiful sites, too many awesome towns and cities, and even sitting on your but in California is better than sitting on your butt anywhere else. What prompted this statement? I'm glad you asked. These are pictures from our trip down to San Simeon for Mothers Day. So cool. Hearst castle, beaches, tasty fish, good times with the parents, even wild turkeys! Check out the rest of our photos to see how wesome it truly was. I also took a bunch of video but that will take a little longer to get together for public display. If someone told you that California wasn't the greatest place in the US, they obviously went to L.A. and no where else. There is just too much awesome to contain in one state. There is a reason 1 in 6 Americans have lived out here at some poin...

Awesomeness to the Max

Did you see Iron Man? I sure did. Not only did it rock, it rah-ha-awk! The only thing I would change about that movie is make it twice as long. Could there be any better casting than Robert Downey Jr? Okay, maybe Jim Carrey in Ace Ventura, but other than that no sir. The weekend don't stop there folks. I know most of you don't live in California but when you do (because I recommend you all do before it floats off to sea), you have got to find some places with amazing fish. Saturday I found another. Since we're moving in a couple weeks Marieta and I eat try to eat at Alameda places before we git outta he-ah. Saturday night we checked out the hobnob on park ave. Its a bar with a pretty small menu but the menu looked pretty promising: Cuban Sandwich, Mini Burgers, Fish & Chips, and four varieties of fries. I was dancing between the Fish & Chips and the Mini Burgers (damn you Iron man for making me want a burger [if you saw it, than you know what I'm talking about])...

One Stupid Move and I'm out 250 bucks

Son of a donkey! Marieta and I come home from Brunch (1:50p) and I park my car right in front of my building because I am about to leave for work. Last weekend I worked here and I showed up at 2:45 when I actually wasn't supposed to work until 4 so I check before I head out the door. Hooray! I don't work till 4. I have some time to kill. I see Marieta off and leave my car for the extra hour. I head out to my car at 3 and it's been towed. Mother Funking, Son of a Biscuit, Piece of Monkey Dung. Well I am gonna be late for work. I run to the bus stop a quarter mile away (in jeans and a jacket). I over pay by three bucks (I only have a five and I'm in a hurray) and get on the bus. Some kid in front of me sits down and puts his feet on the seat in front of him without me seeing that. I sit down on his feet. He freaks and says "Get off my shoes punk." I ask if he will move his shoes. He says He "aint movin his shoes." I say well this is where I can sit and...

Cross Your Fingers

Image
I am really jumping the gun on this post. Why? I can't tell you. Why did I even bother to post at all? Well its late, I'm bored, and anxious for this week. Yes, I know you haven't heard from me in a while. If you want to know whats up here: That's right, I got my plates. I waited until the ding of the bell. It almost came down to a decision and I don't think I had the points to retain the belt. Should I go to sleep? yes.

Pizza

Image
I love pizza. The question is, who doesn't? Cheese baked all over some delicious bread, some salted meats, maybe some spices if you're adventurous. Yesterday, after I got off from work, Marieta and I headed over to the famed Monterrey Market. Being as it was 2.15 and neither of us had eaten lunch we decided to hit up the delish pizza joint just up the street Gioia Pizzeria. Now we've been there before but this place tugs at our hearts in the battle of Best pizza place in town. Pizza has changed man. Up until I was probably 22 or 23 I wanted my pizza to be classic (I grew up in the midwest. In 90's Iowa's best pizza was toss up between Pizza Hut and Little Ceaser's. Don't get me wrong I still love a pan pizza from pizza hut but it is fast food (oh that reminds me of a topic for a future post.) Chicago is pretty much the mecca for pizza of that genre. Deep Dish, greasy floppy slices, large new york style, etc. It's all in the windy city. California style? ...

Those be my new California digits.

This is what you do in california

I think I have adjusted to the time change; However, I did get up at 815 and I can't get back to sleep tonight. It's 1245 PST. 6 days in the state and finally I am close to being adjusted. This is not the point of posting. The other night we watched The Lake House before falling asleep (move to California and the first movie is about people living in Chicago... at least they mentioned San Francisco in it)This is the movie with Keanu Reeves sending letters to Miss Congeniality, who happens to live two years in the future. Now the acting was fine (as far as I'm concerned, but hey I love Keanu). My problems lies in the time space meltdown this movie endures. I expect a little more from a man who went on an excellent adventure with his best friend in a telephone booth. *SPOILERS!* So they write letters Miss Congeniality tries to save some dude she sees get hit bye a bus and goes to her old house to comfort. The letters start when she moves out she leaves an piece of mail with a...

I Live in California

I have been living in California for two days and I love it. Blue skies, breeze from the bay, nice people. Good Stuff. I drove over 2200 miles in a Penske 22 foot truck pulling my car but man was it worth it. Wednesday I start working at my new branch and from there it's on to the moon. or something. P.S. a minor perk is I no longer have to stay up past midnight for west coast sports. Like tonight I would have been in bed for hours missing the best NBA game I have seen in years; Mavs vs Warriors game 4 in Oakland. Crazy steals, buzzer beating shots, half court shots, tons of lead changes, with the Warriors pulling out the W right at the end. I do regret that I missed every Bulls playoff game thus far but that will change shortly. Hope your part of the country is treating you well. peace

The Facts

When Marieta and I first started dating one of the things we talked about was where we wanted to live; she listed Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, Boston. I listed: Chicago, San Francisco, Seattle, Philedelphia (sp?), and about nine others. She'd done Boston, we're doing Chicago, and next on our list is greater area of San Francisco. If you happen to be a recovering Star Trek fan than you know that Alameda is where we keep our nuclear wessels. Very cool, kind of home cooking type feel. Half suburb, half beachtown. So the main motivation for now as I already stated is Grad School. Back @ ISU I made a list of schools I wanted to go to (Iowa, Minnesota, Syracuse, others I forget) I don't want to go to any of those now. If you don't know the bay area Berkeley is like 15 minutes from Alameda and San Jose State just down the bay. Both of these are schools that wet my beak. So we're moving. Now there is main motivation. If you know me you know I like adventure. Moving aro...

It's Official

Marieta is an Registered Dietition, I got the grades, and I shall receive my degree in a couple of short days (maybe a week), and in a week I will be soaking up the rays out in sunny california. It's gonna be a good time. Do you want to see some pictures from my graduation? alright well here there are: http://www.brianboberg.com/pat/2005/graduation.shtml I had no idea that stupid little curl was hanging out during the ceremony and the picture of Marieta and I is not are best. Other than that... nothing. Oh in case you don't know the guy I am sitting next to at the ceremony is Corey. We didn't listen to any of the speceches instead we took a box of basketball cards I snuck in pockets to the ceremony, ranked the players by position and quality and held a draft. We filled a full roster with starting and reserves. It was pretty cool. I think my starting five was: Gilbert Arenas, T Mac, Kevin Garnett, Amare Stoudamire (sp?), and Tim Duncan. I don't remember Corey's b...

Slow Down Ghandi you're killin em

So I'm out in California. pretty cool eh? I have got some new clothes, new shoes, and today I'm going to a Clippers game. HEy don't laugh the Clippers are playing pretty well, Sam Cassell is playing like he owns the place and they're playing the Golden State Warriors. It's gonna be a point guard fest. Baron Davis? hells yes. That man is maybe my favorite point guard out there. And of course Jason Richardson that man is a beast. This all works out well because I'm lookin to move to San Fran. Wouldn't that be sweet? I'll give you more details on that at a later date. I saw my parents new house yesterday, they don't move in till Christmas but it looks pretty sweet. The area is really nice, mountains all over, a huge park, bike paths, hiking paths. I am never gonna live there but it will sure be a nice place to visit. I'll put up some pictures at the end of my trip. This whole trip is gonna be action packed, if I'm not doing something I'm p...
