Taking Chance

If you can't tell I'm a big movie fan. Sadly I don't make enough money to overindulge in my addiction but I try hard to see what I can. I love to follow movie festivals and would one day love to attend the SXSW movie festival in Texas and the Sundance (and across the street SlamDance). So what am I driving at? Taking Chance . I follow firstshowing.net all the time and they recently unveiled a trailer for this flick about a real life Iraq war hero, Chance Phelps , who died trying to save his crew while they were evacuated under fire. This movie carries a lot of promise. If this story carries little message about the right and wrong of the war and truly carries more of a message about soldiers and the reverence they deserve than... I think this film could be huge. Click here to watch the trailer or here to see the Jim Lehrer piece about Chance Phelps taped four years ago.

Magnified Plaid

Better known as MxPx. I love this song. I used to love this group until they completely took a dive off credibility and quality diving board. I recently popped Slowly Going the Way ... and Life in General in my cd player. Completely awesome stuff. It's been a pretty relaxed weekend; Finished up the registry shopping, saw a couple flicks ( Step Brothers [completely ridiculous] and P.S. I Love You [Marieta cried through the whole thing), and today I'm taking care of my sick wife. I wish I had more to share... (go bears).

Thanksgiving 2008

It's been a relaxing Thanksgiving. A lot of quality time spent with the fam. Marieta made a ton of delicious food, I made an awesome (aren't I  modest) Pear-Apple-Cranberry Pie (with a cool top design). Let me just show you the pics. (click on the slideshow to see the pictures fullsize) Walk Over The Golden Gate from Pat Boberg on Vimeo .

A Not So Relaxing Holiday

A couple years ago Marieta and I invited both of our families to Chicago for a big ole Thanksgiving dinner. It was massive. Like a 20 lbs bird and probably close to a dozen, if not more, sides. I would put it on Marieta loving to cook but I am not sure that is correct. I think I suggested the whole both families idea and she just went along with the idea. Last year we went lofi and just drove down to L.A. for thanksgiving with my family. This year? we're taking the beast by the horns, again. This time there are only five of us, and the bird is considerably smaller, but Marieta still wants to make it special. New side dishes, two pies (I'm making a pear and apple pie), and this time everyone gets to stay at our apartment! Hooray! I'll post some pictures to let you in on the Turkey Day goodness. Rock n Roll.

Take a Peak For Yourself

Image
This wedding website is pretty much maxed out for wedding materials now. I don't know what else could be put on the site now. You can watch the whole thing from Proposal to the Vows. I love it. This is the what differeniates the 21st from the 20th century. 10 or 20 years ago if you missed something (wedding, party, birth, concert) you gotta hope someone taped it and you know them or their friend to get a look. Now all you need is a high speed internet connection and 10 spare minutes. I have edited every piece of content down to its feature presentation form and our wedding DVD is coming in at two discs and around 3 and a half hours of viewable material . Is that insane or what? I think doing this thing myself was possibly the greatest idea I could ever come up with. That's it for now peeps. It is 4am, 52 degrees, and I gots work to do. Peace.

Celebrating The Election Via Youtube

Hooray for Tuesday. I wont go in depth any further except to say very pleased with Barack and extremely forlorned with the passage of Prop 8 out here. I guess once again the Supreme Court is gonna have to push change upon the masses (see Brown vs. Board, Roe vs. Wade... the list never ends). So Youtube! This thing keeps getting better and better. It's not nearly as awesome as Vimeo (you gotta love a video player that has no framing or visible controls) They just changed the viewer to add close captions on other site and what not but what I'm really digging is the ability to search it on any site that has an embedded player. I think this feature has been around for a while but I just got turned onto it. So today I'm searching Presidential musical performances and saw Bill Clinton doing the sax thing. Pretty sweet. Somehow I got to this: Good Day to you and yours.

Everything You Need To VOTE

Image
After moving to El Cerrito I recently realized I had zero idea where my polling location was. Turns out it is about 100 yards from my door. How did I find out that was my spot? DeclareYourself.com . No I didn't magically stumble upon that site. A guy named Steven Spielberg put a video online telling people to vote and the video has built in time for you to open a second browser and check out their site. Here take a look. Pretty cool stuff. I can't guarentee but just seeing those stars I'm pretty sure there varying opinions on the political viewpoints in that piece. Anyways, DeclareYourself.com gives you any and all info you want to know. I found my polling place, visited my county registrar website , and printed off a sample ballot. You know what the best part about this is? Now I can check out, by myself, what the story is on all these ballot measures and third party candidates. Yes I'm going Obama for President but with congressional seats and state senate I owe thos

Continue the Career Climb

Image
When you lose a job (one of three in my case) you have a couple of options: sit at home and cry about it or reevaluate your efforts to move your career ambitions along. Well I spent one day at home not working and I decided I hate that. I don't make much money and spending a weekday on my couch when I want to work sucked so I wrote some emails, made some calls, and because of that I have spent more time at cbs over the last week than anywhere else. Picked up my photog training, started to shadow the sports guys, and picking up any open shift I can downstairs at KCBS. Without realizing it the first night I go in to shadow a sports producer there is pretty much zero sports going on; the worlds series was delayed and no football. Thankfully there was a San Jose Sharks game and the NBA kicked off (albeit no Warriors game). Walking in I was expecting it to be pretty slow, but it turns out the sports department has a way of turning slow times into fun times. Here's what I'm talki

A Peak Into My Weakend

As Metallica once said... the memory remains. Here's a taste of Marieta and I playing host to our good friends, Brian and Denise Mercury. They swooped into town Thursday evening and danced around the bay with us. Napa, the Golden Gate, Ferry Building Farmers Market, The Golden Gate Park... all the usual haunts. Nothing too exciting to tell you about any of that. I will let you know how dumb we were to believe the weather channel. Do not go into San Francisco expect nice weather ever. Always plan for the cold because at a moments notice you could find yourself deep in the fog with your wife wearing a skirt in 50 degree weather. Not too nice. Okay, let's do this thing. I hope your week goes well.

One of The Faithful

Image
I don't know what brought me to this page or how I searched it out last night but check out this story; a Fresno Priest recently came out to his congregation during a homily . That takes some serious guts. With a story of this magnitude you gotta believe that they also did a follow up piece . I would go in depth more on my thoughts but I gotta run to the city and pick some peeps up. Oh and maybe the best part about this all. Father Farrow has a blog. Peace!

Surprisingly... A Good Time

Image
Remember when we lived in Chicago and I was working to open a studio with a dude named Charlie? The plan was to open a recording studio/videography suite. I quickly fell out of love with the deal because Charlie started expecting things from me that I didn't really want to do, i.e. wedding videography. At the time I thought it was to filmmaking what prostitution is to love making. Well I'm kind of rethinking all that... This is a quick snapshot of the DVD I put together for Marieta's good friend Sarah Dutton. She got married back in May and I offered a couple weeks before to video it for her. She had no one doing it professionally so she pretty much said why not. Now I'm not a graphical design artist so the case and DVD label are pretty elementary (and as far as I'm concerned... overrated anyways) but in the end I'm pretty proud of this puppy. There is close to two hours of content and even though it wasn't something I was super excited to do at the time, it

Humpday Hello

Image
Take a looksy at how the Boberg's (class of '78 & '08) teamed up to enjoy the Half Moon Bay Art & Pumpkin Festival. T'was a great time. Ate some pumpkin, bought a couple pumpkins, saw a crude juggling act... you know, livin' and lovin'. In other news things have been a big ball of fun; Hertz pushed me out the door, I got a haircut at the same time an old asian woman decided to nearly bite the big one, I finally cracked open my Wii Fit and it is kicking my ass (birthday present from Marieta), and I'm working on shadowing some of the sports producers at the KPIX to see if I can get a foot in that door. Life is rolling along. It does suck a bit to only be 2/3 employed but you know that's life, and hopefully this is just the karmic nudge I need to stop messing around with that kind of B.S. So maybe I'll have some other newsicle pieces for you later, but for now take a gander at the old woman who nearly bought the farm at Supercuts.

Great Pumpkin Weigh Off

So for work I was sent down to Half Moon Bay yesterday to cover the Half Moon Bay Giant Pumpkin Weigh Off. The even was pretty sweet, doing my job was not... the camera I got from work was different than the normal one I work with and it had no juice so I shot everything with my camera and used the work one whenever it got enough juice to operate. I shot all interviews twice so I can could use them for work and I walked around a majority of the time holding two cameras. People probably though i was crazy. Here's what came out on my camera. Stupidly I toggled back and forth between 16:9 and 4:3. I think it worked out pretty well in the edit. If you like it go and give me a vote at current and maybe it will amke the air. Peace!

Monday Will Blow Your Mind

Image
I don't want to overstate anything here but this coming Monday (10/13/2008) may be the absolute high-water mark of my life thus far. Why such a grand statement? Because Monday kicks off the Half Moon Bay Pumpkin Festival  with a pumpkin weighing competition and yours truly will be there webcasting it for the masses on CBS5.com . Now I know that in itself is nothing great, I mean, I've done the webcasting thing for events that are close to that cool but this time... oh buddy! My webcast will be used in the 6am news cast AND! I get to interview two people.  Okay so people do interviews for the news all the time but dudes, I need you to see the forest through the trees here. Is there anything more fun in life than ridiculous events like this? I would be hard-pressed to top it. Now add on top of that that I will be giving every buddy out there a look into the fantistical world of gigantic legumes! The two people, who I am extremely excited to interview? The defending champion who

My Dream Car

My Uncle Steve rebuilt a 1972 (maybe 74) Dodge Challenger, this black beastly super cool muscle car, and I love it. If I ever have the space or means to rebuild a car I want it to be the one you see above; a 1972 Lamborghini Espada. Now you may be think it is the ugliest thing you have ever seen but I'm sorry this car to me just seems so visually counter to everything Lamborghini is today that I can't get enough of it. The pictures you see are from a Espada that I found for sale online. To see the sexy beast I saw check out this video. And even though I don't think it is as cool... around the corner from my dream car was the second fastest car in the world. Take a look at the Koenigsegg Model CCX. If you have 1.7 Million bucks it's yours.

THAT is a Debate?

Image
Why Do these debates inspire the exact opposite of their intentions? I am really interested in the ideas in the election and presidential politics in general but these debates... talk about a kill joy. How can a voter who is sitting on the fence use these marathon games of rhetorical dodgeball to make a decision. Every year candidates fear the debates because strong stances and true debating gets looked upon as mean and poorly put together; so what do they do? They tap dance on the tight rope of nat'l issues for an hour and half trying not to be too impolite to their opponent. These fools might as well be wearing bathing suits and juggling plates because the pundits and the analysts don't give a crap about the message, only the delivery. Nothing sounds more stale and bogus than when a person running for political office calls the current election the most important of our lives. No shit; A) Previous elections have long since passed so their impact is not an issue and B) who kno

Meg Has Flown the Coup

Image
This past May my sister Meg graduated college and for the next nine months or so, she'll be teaching in Spain. What she is teaching... I have no idea. The cool part about her trip is that we all beat her over the head enough that she agreed to blog about the whole thing . Her posts are exceptionally written (no typos or pointless rambling like yours truly), and she finally got around to posting some pictures. Here's a taste. Meg's the one on the right, the chick on the left is her roommate (I have brilliantly deduced. She has a ton of these pictures on facebook but if you want the link you're gonna have to visit her blog; Meg the Expat .

Today Is Not My Day

So I'm starting to perk up a bit, shaking off the malaise of waking up at 2:30am, when I suddenly remember that I forgot to move my car at 4am to the all day free parking on Sansome... that sucks. Today is not gonna be my day; wake up at 2:30, I'm the only P.A. here until 4:15 because I seem to be the only one who read the email about our shift being pushed back to 3:30, our apartment is being fogged for bugs around noon so I can't get into it until after 5p; ergo, I don't get to take a tasty nap in my bed... it'll have to be in my car... So is the day, now's let talk about the week. First off, you wouldn't think it hard to switch from waking up at 3a to 230a but dude, it is hard. I am all kinds of tired. I am gonna have to take a nap in my car on my break because I can barely keep it together. I gotta rethink my sleep schedule this weekend so I don't have to deal with this next week. Second, taking off a week (and two days) for our wedding has destroyed

Return of the LumberJack

Image
Hells ye-uh. The wedding has past and the beard is back. No reason to be clean shaven anymore! Might as well get prepared for the frosty SF winters... Hope you have a nice weekend planned, we have a house warming party to attend and Marieta is going to bring these cupcakes.. Yum. Savory Basil Pesto Cupcakes. Finally some of these cookbooks are gonna come in handy. OKAY! Maybe your days be merry and bright. Peace.

Our Wedding Site Is Bloated

There are 13 videos on our wedding site. That's right, 13. I just added four today. Three are from our rehearsal dinner, and the fourth is a looksie at the bridal party's journey around Ames between the Wedding and the Reception. Oh man, I am having way too much fun with this stuff. Wait till I start chopping down the wedding. it's gonna be sick. Just straight up sick. Okay buddies. Go check it out . I love you.

Wedding Pics

People snapped a TON of pics at our wedding a weekend ago and they are all over the Information Super Highway; however, the pics from my phone & Marieta's camera have only made a little cameo on our wedding website . I got to thinking about it and figured why not just put em here. Seems a lot of peeps want to see them and are to lazy to check out our wedding site so here you go... a little slideshow from picasa.

The Week That Was

It's a big week! I'm making my return to Hertz today for the first time in two weeks. You know what that means... next time I talk to yous I may been sans Hertz employment (not the cool). I've also got four days lined up at KPIX. That means I'll be slinging four times (well maybe not but I did sling 3 out of 3 days last week. Hey last week! What happened there? Oh just one whole week of marriage. Saturday being the one week anniversary. Marieta and I celebrated by going to Napa Valley. You can check out our little journey to grapetown over at the wedding website . Okay, quarter to 6... time to load up my horse and the dusty trail... to San Francisco. PEACE!

What Next?

Image
Marieta and I are now the proud owners of 6' 4" X 6' 8" of soft real estate. That's right, we own a new bed and it is awesome. After our little purchase Marieta and I sat down over dinner and mapped out our spending plan. Yep, that's right, I am treading in new waters... responsibility... For the first time in a year we don't have an evening dominated by thoughts or actions pertaining to planning a wedding. It feels really nice. Almost alien. The majority of our first year in California was controlled by wedding issues, planning, and to-do lists. Now we have all these new plans. It's fun. This Saturday we are riding the Napa Wine Train (cashing in a gift from a year ago), stopping into a couple banks to set up joint checking and savings, Sunday morning we're going to see a flick called Two Angry Moms , a story about a couple of mothers upset over the nuritional content of their kids school lunches, and who knows, maybe we'll get over to the cit

I Would Advise Everyone To Get Married Immediately

Image
I have never had more fun in my life than I did on our wedding day. Sure the morning was slow and I spent a good chunk of time worried about the audio in our church... but seeing my extended family, dancing with my little cousins, taking a boat load of fun pictures, riding in a limo, eating cake (and donuts), committing my life to the most perfect person I've ever met, putting on a show with a slew of fun videos, and just having a ball made this weekend awesome. I highly reccomend it. It's kind of fun to just say "my wife" in as many sentences as possible. (My wife and I were wondering if there are any specials? Would you mind switching seats with me so I can sit with my wife? I really have no clue, you'd want to talk with my wife...) I'm sure the silly novelty will eventually fade into routine but right now it cracks me up. So what's up with the Boberg's now that we've tied the knot? A whole hell of a lot, and at the same time very little. Since w

Even Tshirts Eventually Meet Their Maker

The Tshirts herein served valiantly before meeting their demise. These shirts represent my college experience, and while there will be more, I would like to take a moment to say... I love you guys, I really appreciate all they did for me... Thank you for taking the time to pay these garments the respect they deserve.

Welcome to Yemen

Welcome to Al Hajarah, Yemen via Current courtesy of Flickr . Holy Hamburgers is this place awesome. Google Maps can't find it but if I ever find out where this is, I would love to go check it out. Awesome, n'est pas?

Freaking Delicious

It is time to unveil my third blog. Freaking Delicious . It's my conduit for food friendly discussion and I get to do fun little video things like this: Yes, yes that theme song is 100% pat goodness across the board. (Have I mentioned how much I love my phone & new computer?) There will be text posts as well, but I'm pretty excited for this. I'll be posting my first video review tomorrow evening. Later

Babbling Scribe Podcast 4

Oh yes, Podcasting! I'm back at it. In fact, I'm so back at it! I have the added some pictorific goodness to the whole ordeal. Click on the title of this post to tune in! Plenty of topics covered; wedding, iowa, san francisco, movies, and I even tag a tune onto the end for good measure. I hope you're enjoying my last weekend as a free man! Peace.

What's a Sling Cam

Image
So here is the complete get up I talk about my sling cam assignments (or roving web cams). Of course there is a camera, which is connected to the router there on the end of the table. Now that router is where the magic happens. Its called a sling cam because that router uses a slingbox to send the video over the web. Normally a slingbox is a consumer product that only transmits television but one of my bosses, Don Sharp, figured out how to send live video, and now it's a pretty famous get up. Now to power the router and slingbox there is a very heavy battery and battery bar converting that power into normal wall a.c. In this shot you see a tripod and laptop. Normally I don't have either of those, but since this time I went to a press conference and I had plenty of time to set up Don gave me all the goods to make sure I got a good shot and everything was transmitting well. See the laptop configures the router and makes sure the sling cam is seeing what we want it to.  So that

Time to Concede the Fight

Maybe this makes me a jerk but New Orleans is a lost cause. According to Wikipedia , New Orleans population in May of 2007 was just under 260k. That is barely over 50% of what it was prior to Hurricane Katrina, and if those numbers are accurate, that makes New Orleans smaller than Des Moines, IA. So as Hurricane Gustov makes landfall (right now), it is only logical to wonder what this will do to the numbers in New Orleans. Will the less fortunate be able to make the evac and return twice? Will those with means want to rebuild again? Will businesses or prospective residents want to move to an area that has not only proven to be disaster prone in the last few years, but is also uninsurable? In a modern world, maybe the smart thing to do is just give up on the idea of New Orleans... while the city and area may hold a rich history, it is apparent that building below sea level is not only dangerous, but indefensible. It may be true that New Orleans contains a culture that is not found anyw

Is August Almost Over?

Image
You're kidding me. 2008 must hold the record for fasting passing year in the history of recorded time. I swear a second ago was mid March and now it's almost September? Yikes man! Before we know it the new NBA season will kick into gear. Craziness. Dudes, I am about 95% complete with all the wedding videos and what not I've been working on. For those graced with the honor of attending our wedding what is there to expect? ...greatness. Okay, that's a little much, but I am enjoying all the little goodies we h ave put together. Marieta is really going above and beyond. What have I have been doing? Music, Videos, I lined up the dj, photographer, videographer, a few small things here and there. I'd say the work is about 80-20, the weight being Marieta (however, the video projects I've done take days/weeks to prepare so don't think I haven't been grinding out each spare moment.) Want a preview of those videos? well I can't really do that but I can show a c

Yes, I Would Be a Copycat Batman

Image
My official statement on the Dark Knight: Whoa. That movie was so good it was just a whoa. To quote Wesley Willis it was a freak out hell ride to the max. The few parts where the pace slowed were still so tense that it was hard to breathe some times. Now I know a lot of people are saying it but I have to agree; Heath Ledger deserves an oscar. I don't think any charactor has been played that intensely. NOT A SINGLE ONE. The opening bank robbery establishes the jokers take no prisoners scheming but when he breaks into the mob boss meeting, oh man, brutal. Now, I wasn't a big Ledger fan prior to this film. I depise 10 Things I Hate About You and Knights Tale is barely watchable, but after his performance in this and Brokeback Mountain, I'm actually feeling a little upset that we only get to see Heath one more time. It's obvious he was really starting to feel his craft, and throw himself into charactors in a way that few have before. (Pacino in Godfather and Godfather two,

Tomorrow is the Day

I'm finally going to see The Dark Knight. I worked this morning, and I'm putting in some overtime at KCBS making sure that a new web writer understands how to use the webcode and the whole uploading process (so basically she does all the hardwork and I watch over her occasionally to say "No, you need to convert the audio from Wav to Mp3." Hardwork). So 13 hours of work on a Monday adds up to what? A free day tomorrow and a date with Batman, Joker, Harvey Dent, THE WHOLE GANG! I spit in the face of sleep deprievation. So what if I'm a month late to the party, I am still getting to it before it leaves the silver screen. Tomorrow is going to be pretty sweet. Finish up some a few wedding goodies, do some drawing for a childrens book, work on the wedding tunes, and Batman. Today is kind of like cramming before a big test. I'm shoving as much work as possible into today so I can do something important the following day. So awesome. Oh and tomorrow I turn 26. Yow

Start the Clock

31 days till I say I do. Pretty exciting. Looking at my list of goods to get done, it's seems pretty manageable. I kind of feel like my list is full of surprises so I can't give you the details but some of them are finding people to take pictures for our photo guestbook, finish the wedding music, and talk with family members... so there's a taste. Marieta's list starts to deflate and than one project turns into five so no rest for the weary. I know it's all gonna get done. Just looking at the list I can see that there really are not many things to buy or what not, just coordinating the details. Making sure we have everyone in the right place and all contracted peeps happy. I'm excited. After this weekend my list is gonna be a ghost town. I'm rocking it. Videos are almost all done. And that's a big deal. When that's done I will have probably edited down close to an hour and a half of video stuff (shower stuff, kids corner stuff, and surprise videos),

Much Love For Megapixels

Image
That's me and my new phone, the LG Dare. Touch Screen, 3 mp camera, great video, in camera effects for video (slow mo, fades, edit). Good stuff. I like it a lot; however it is an example of my lust for new tech gear, and to that end... Best Buy is putting vending kiosks in major airports. A little late to this game if you ask me, but still one more thing to tempt me from parting ways with my money. Working the early shift at channel 5 this morning, one of the anchors was cracking wise about guys and tech goodies. "Oh I needed it, I needed it." ...Is that true or what? Tech toys for guys are the equivalent of clothes and shoes for girls except much more expensive so we can't indulge nearly as much; however, that won't keep us from spending hours oogling cameras, tvs, mp3 players, software, etc. Oh man do I have this bad. You know in Waynes World where Wayne finally buys that Fender Stratocaster (a guitar that I don't consider all that awesome [even though I

Hannah Knows Delicious

Dude, does that look freaking delicious or what? You have got to check out the stuff over at hannah's gluten intolerant blog: Gluten-Free Garden . She is really got something going there.

Jordan Is A Dad

Image
Meet Spencer Dennis Jensen. Jordan's new born son. How cool is that? Every time I think about this little dude it kind of trips me out. My best friend has a kid. He's a parent. ALL MY FRIENDS ARE HAVING BABIES! Well... not truly my friends. I mean Marieta's best friend Autumn has two kids, her other friend Sarah got married this past May and absorbed two youngins , Matt and Angie just adopted a girl, and now Bethany and Jordan have one of their own. BETHANY IS YOUNGER THAN ME! Hmm ... I haven't figured out if its them having kids that weirds me out or the idea that I could be a parent in the near future. YIKES! Let me get married first people, one step at a time. Oh and how weird is it that I came here to post about Spencer and this is how I'm greeted at my blogger dashboard: THEIR EVERYWHERE!

All Work And No Play

Well, that's not entirely true... Yes I am in middle of the 16 day straight workstand, but some of those work days are only five hours long. Now, before you say that's nothing, you must know that I am waking up at a 4am for those five hour days so adding delirious fatigue to those short work days makes it feel eight hours long... On top of that the play portion of my life right now is wedding work. Okay, my wedding work yesterday consisted of rounding up some pictures and working on the wedding march but that's not exactly riding an innertube down a waterslide. I MUST SEE THE DARK KNIGHT THIS WEEKEND! If I don't I wont have any free time until August 14th! CBS gets their time, Marieta gets her time, whats left for Batman? Shouldn't someone be concerned about his feelings?

Dark Knight Takes It All

Browsing through my reader this morning an interesting article popped up . 13 days into its box office run the Dark Knight has taken in close to 350 Million bucks, so people are wondering if it has the stones to take down the big one... Titanic . That's a pretty tall order. Pretty boy Leonardo Dicaprio and a mirage of a great story destroyed the box office en route to 600 Million domestic bills. At the time people were calling it the best movie ever made, now looking back thats pretty hilarious, but it did push it into a couple of the top oscars. Similar to Titanic, the Dark Knight is crushing the American hype-o-sphere. everyone has been loving this film since Heath's ravaged mug hit the net over a year ago. Colleges have probably already started devising marketing class ciriculum. Most advertising campaigns suffer from a public backlash but with The Dark Knight redefining viral marketing, we weren't given the opportunity to get sarcastic. The building anticipation help

Kids-Corner Update

Image
That's right, nothing for months and than two updates in two weeks. I am just in the zone. Think that's crazy? Come Friday, there should be an update to the normal video portion of the wedding site .

Reviewing the Illinois Whirlwind

So after a brief stay in Santa Ana, California (DAMN YOU AMERICAN AIRLINES!), Marieta and I are back in good ole El Cerrito. How was Illinois you ask? Kind of crazy. We got out of O'Hare airport at midnight, got to my grandma Boberg's house in Cambridge, Illinois by 2:30am, and kicked off the shower goodness the following afternoon. Of course I videoed the affair so I don't want to give you too many of the details but I will let you know both the Boberg Shower and the Catanzaro shower gave me plenty of time to master my puppetry... Sunday our whole crew woke up at the crack of dawn and drove to Chicago for the Catanzaro shower. It was nice to see my family tree live in the flesh, but sadly, we spent zero time in Chicago itself. Kind of lame but when you have only 48 hours and over 30 relatives to satisfy you can't always do what you want. I only wish we had left enough time to grab a slice of Mr. Beef Pizza : (. Are smileys out of style? Ah who cares. Look for something

Actually, It's Quite the Opposite

Image
The eight week mark has past and more and more people are asking me about my wedding. So when I say its September 13th people are obligated to say "Oh man, that's soon. Getting nervous?" Up till now I've been saying that I'm totally chill. Well that's all changed. At the beginning of the month Marieta made this list of things we have to do before the wedding. This is a long, long list. It's broken down by week, and if it wasn't for optimism I'd probably worry about it... now on top of that there's a specific "Pat" list. On it are things like the DJ and videographers, but most importantly, 100 pounds video stuff. Seriously; picture collages, rehearsal dinner stuff, website stuff, and you know what? I'M OFF THE WALL EXCITED! After publishing that bunny video in the kids corner , I have really hit a groove. I know I'm big into hyperbole on here but... the video I'm making about my groomsmen is pretty damn sweet. I can only te

I Can't Get to the Theater

I really really really want to see The Dark Knight this weekend; however, the Gods of marriage and employment are working against me. I am manning kcbs.com tomorrow so that pretty much eats up my Saturday and when I'm not doing that, I'll be working hardcore on wedding stuff. Marieta typed out this to do list that pretty much monopolizes all of our time from now to the wedding. Seriously, I'm not exaggerating. One of the bad things about living away from your family and bridal party is that you have to do pretty much every-little-thing on your own. Oh well, I'm handling it fine (granted I don't have as much to do), but Marieta is stressing. I just reiterating that we just need to focus on the necessary things first and the luxuries second. Make the cake before you start with the frosting. Back to the movies. This summer is the perfect cocktail of awesome films and zero time/money. The only film I have been to all summer is Iron Man, and technically that was a sprin

My Life Is Forever Changed

Take a moment to take this in: I have never, in my entire life, and I say this with zero sarcasm, felt more proud to have a connection to Iowa. The Iowa Chops. Formerly the Iowa Stars, American Hockey League affiliate to the Dallas Stars, has reaffiliated to the Anaheim Ducks, and changed their name to the Iowa C*H*O*P*S. PERFECT! Now that in itself is pretty damn hilarious but look at that pig. I could get that thing tattooed across my chest. Oh man, keep your eyes a rolling. Notice anything else from that page? WE'VE TRIMMED THE FAT! YES! This franchise is something that I all Iowans should be proud to support. The food jokes will never end. Why have some fierce, too-serious-for-its-own-good name like the Thrashers, Lightning, or Hurricanes? The Iowa C*H*O*P*S. COME ON! The store website is the The Chop Shop. I cannot get enough. I am so enamored that I just bought a hat. I will proudly wear that hat everyday of my life. Now I'm hoping it looks better than that once it arrive

There Will Be Sleepiness

It is the 8th straight day of Patrick Boberg sleep drought and predictions are he wont see any relief until the weekend. Source close to the situation are reporting the embargo started as Boberg took on too heavy a workload around Wednesday last week when he started training for new responsibilities at his TV news job. Boberg experienced a minor amount of relief over the weekend; however, accepting two weekend shifts while also entertaining his parents from out of town negating small amount of excess sleep he garnered. Our attention now turns to Patrick Boberg's attempt to weather his workload this week. As If working 4 a-m to 1 p-m each day till Thursday wasn't enough, Boberg has recently as yesterday afternoon has experienced trouble with his afternoon nap. After quickly relenting to his inability to fall asleep, Boberg stayed up through most of the afternoon watching Paul Thomas Anderson's There Will be Blood . We are told he thoroughly enjoyed the film. Concerning his n

Greatest Thing Ever Pt 2

If we are all dead and gone, hopefully this will survive. Where the Hell is Matt? (2008) from Matthew Harding on Vimeo . I must give credit where it's due. This is pure genius. Why can't we just get the north koreans, iranians, iraqis, sudis, palistineans, israelis, etc. to do this? At least the bloods and the cripps,

Bright and Early

May I be the first to wish you a happy Independence Day. That's right, I'm working. you should know by now THE SHOW MUST GO ON! Just because you're kicking back with a beer and a brat, that doesn't mean there isn't important information to desiminate to the masses... Who am I kidding? I would give my cornias to be sleeping in right now. Major national holiday and I wake up at 3a... lame-o-rama... I'm just hoping that I get home in time to get a little sleep before my parents show up. Hey, but work the 4th and get the weekend off right? Eh... no. I'm be manning KCBS tomorrow and Sunday 8a-4p so my weekend is pretty much dominated by the broadcast news industry. It may sound like I am complaining (well I am complaining... give me a break its early), but I was asked to cover these shifts and gladly accepted. In reality I am a grunt and if I ever want to move up, covering holidays and saying yes to all shifts is the way to go. I mean I've been here just unde

Wedding Site Update

Finally added some new content to the our wedding website . I know it isn't the much anticipated kids corner episode I promised. Hold onto your face buddies. That takes a lot of work and I haven't had the time to get it done. It'll happen. P.S. An old high school buddy of mine, Garrett, appears to be touring the world with his reggae group The Blue Isand Tribe . While I am a touch jealous, I must say that is awesome. The last time I saw him in person he was recovering from BRAIN SURGERY! Keep on rocking in the free world Garrett.

Beliefs

You may or may not know that Jeremy Wind was ordained this weekend. Too you non-catholics that is a huge deal. It means he is officially a Priest. It was really cool. The idea of spending the weekend with a bunch of Priests may make some a little... uneasy. Hey! I was one of those people only a couple years ago, but that's all changed. After doing all this Catholic pre -marriage meetings and interview stuff I gotta say my outlook has changed a lot. For a loooooong time I had a pretty negative view of religion in general. There was just a painful deluge of negative publicity for Christianity . Catholicism, Protestants, and Evangelicals are all very different, but if one of them looks bad they all look bad. Now I don't want to mince words but Evangelic has become as close to a dirty word as you can get over the last 8 years, and why is that? President Bush. Has a President ever been more in bed with an ideology than G dubbs is with the Evangelical right? Seems like any time h

Old Friend's Make it Interesting

Hannah Bretz, you remember her? Elf-like crazy redhead with the voice of a banshee? Yeah, that's her. Well I'm chatting with her about life and whats going on, well low and behold, she can no longer eat foods with Gluten in them. Not only that, but she has a site entirely dedicated to it. Gluten-Free Garden .  You at first I thought that was cool, but it didn't effect me so I didn't give a full once over. Well Take a look. She is really doing it. All sorts of pictures, good info. A TON of links. I would say more but I don't to tell you. I want YOU to go there .

Addendum to Same Sex Blitzkrieg

If you want to see the good stuff (the protesters outside) I shot from last night, than click away . And just so I don't waste your time here are a couple of my favorite quotes from last night. "There isn't a giant bearded man in the sky who tells us what to do with our anuses!" "What did they call it when religion ruled the world? The Dark Ages!" "Down with the lobster eaters! Free the shrimp!" There were more but this had me laughing, and let's face it, people only care these days if they get a good chuckle.

Same-Sex Blitzkrieg

Monday and Tuesday I'm doing the live roving webcam deal. This time its the Same Sex Marriage coverage. Last night I covered the reception of the first same sex couple in SF to get legally married. Del Martin and Phyllis Lyons, who have been together over 55 years, were married by the Mayor of SF, Gavin Newsom. The place was crazy. A few hundred people, a big cake, a lot of press. It was fun. It's kind of nice to be at this historic events, even if it is only coverage for work. The only funny thing about yesterday was when the crowd started clearing out, after the Mayor and the couple left the reception, the press people (camera, sound, lighting guys) all swooped in and got a piece of cake. Sadly, I was a floor above the action so I didn't a piece. What happens today? A boat load of marriages on the spot at city hall. check out cbs5.com and I'll be the live webcam covering the event. Have a tasty Tuesday.

Uh! Muh Hair!

Image
It's so hard to quote a weird little phrase such as George Clooney's hair comments from Oh Brother? Where Art Thou? But you know, it was worth the effort. Now Check out my haircut from a generation past. To set the stage, I needed a haircut and there isn't a great clips or national chain thing around so I hit up a local joint. This barber shop was straight from the 70s; wood panels, weird mammoth chairs, and newspapers clippings from a bygone era.  Now the cut I received was from the owner who was in his 70s. A nice guy but he kind of just did his own thing without asking any questions. What was his thing? Using an electric trimmer with no length guards, shaving the edges around my ears and neck with a STRAIGHT RAZOR & SHAVING CREAM! and capping it off with pomade and and one hell of a tight comb job. Now the way he combed my hair is something similar to my Grandpa Boberg's hairstlying.  I loved the experience... not so sure about the cut. Now maybe they aren't
