Yes, I Would Be a Copycat Batman

My official statement on the Dark Knight: Whoa. That movie was so good it was just a whoa. To quote Wesley Willis it was a freak out hell ride to the max. The few parts where the pace slowed were still so tense that it was hard to breathe some times.

Now I know a lot of people are saying it but I have to agree; Heath Ledger deserves an oscar. I don't think any charactor has been played that intensely. NOT A SINGLE ONE. The opening bank robbery establishes the jokers take no prisoners scheming but when he breaks into the mob boss meeting, oh man, brutal. Now, I wasn't a big Ledger fan prior to this film. I depise 10 Things I Hate About You and Knights Tale is barely watchable, but after his performance in this and Brokeback Mountain, I'm actually feeling a little upset that we only get to see Heath one more time. It's obvious he was really starting to feel his craft, and throw himself into charactors in a way that few have before. (Pacino in Godfather and Godfather two, Dog Day Afternoon; Nicholson in Cuckoos Nest, The Shining; Deniro in Raging Bull, Goodfellas/Casino, Taxidriver)

NOW I'M GONNA ASSUME EVERYONE HAS SEEN THIS FILM CONSIDERING IT'S MADE OVER $500 MILLION AND IT TOOK ME A MONTH TO GET TO IT SO SPOILER TIME!! The way every charactor was handled in TDK was perfect. Harvey Dent/Two-face was so awesome. Now considering the comics have Dent as a close friend of batman and Bruce Wayne prior to his transformation, you would think there would be some animosity to Two-faces near cameo presence, but with the handling of Dent's fall from powerful D.A. to grieving maniac there is no reaction other than complete awe at the quality of storytelling.

Every issue that batman would pose in the real world was addressed in this film. His suit being vulnerable, copycat Batmans, and Batman being a truly reactive force and not completely set in judgement or actions. The acting may be big now, and the story telling is starting to get its due, but Christopher Nolan has made his career with this film. He is this decades Coppola (70s), Speilberg (80s) or Ron Howard (90s). This film is completely perfect and it is all thanks to the stylization carved out by Nolan. The best part for Nolan is when actors or musicians put on a ground shaking performance the question is can they do it again, but with a film this great I don't feel the pressure is on for him in the same way. It seems directors are allowed to rest on their past greatness. No one cares that Coppolla keeps shoveling crap or that Speilberg has swung and missed with War of the Worlds and Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull.

So basically, I loved this film. I doubt I will see it again before the dvd comes out but A+. It definitely transcends the Comic book genre.
